Gathering Fragments – Held Together draws on the log cabin quilt block, a form historically pieced
together by women from scraps during times of scarcity. These quilts carry feminist histories of
survival, ingenuity, and the quiet labour that sustained households—work essential to family and
community yet rarely acknowledged or valued.

By constructing each piece from reclaimed linen, shirts, woollen blankets, and salvaged threads,
the series foregrounds the politics of reuse and the endurance embedded in women’s domestic
making. Hand stitching becomes a feminist act: a refusal to discard what is worn, a commitment to
repair, and an assertion that care is a form of knowledge. The fragments, once part of other lives,
are held together through practices long associated with women—practices historically dismissed
as craft but central to resilience and continuity.

In reimagining the log cabin as individual works, the series honours this lineage of resourcefulness
and insists on the cultural and emotional value of women’s labour. Each piece becomes a quiet
